THE GOODS: Dutch and Middle Eastern influences create the ultimate Amsterdam Falafel, the best falafel in the DC area. Select from a variety of sauces, salads, and pickles to top off your sandwich, grab some fries with Dutch mayo and find a seat in the always lively, indie-style shop. You'll be very satisfied with your personal falafel.
THE FOOD: Amsterdam Falafel Shop serves up heavenly fried chickpea balls fried to crispy perfection. These falafel balls are made fresh right in front of you - super crispy and golden brown on the outside, soft and textured on the inside, and flavored with the right amount of spices. Select from wheat or white pita bread. And on top of the falafel balls, you layer on the vast variety of pickled veggies - from red cabbage, cucumbers, jalapenos, chickpea salad, baba ghanoush, beet salad, roasted cauliflower - and hummus, tzatziki, red chili paste, tahini sauce, garlic cream sauce, spicy tabbouleh, the list goes on and on. Let your creativity and curiosity guide you as you lavish upon your falafel toppings rich in both color and flavor. Try to save room in your belly for some fries dipped in Dutch mayo or peanut sauce.
AMBIENCE / SERVICE: Fast, cozy, and convenient. This small shop in Adams Morgan is constantly thriving. So when you can, grab a seat either outside on their patio or on their stools or tables inside. You have to try their falafels at the shop because the decor inside definitely adds character to your dining experience. There's maps of Amsterdam for trip-planning on the walls and brightly colored paintings - indie / funky / Euro. However, when it's quite busy, sometimes you'll find some customers sitting on the sidewalk with the falafel sandwich in their hands looking very, very, very happy. Because the falafel by itself is just dang good.
PRICE: Small falafel (3 balls) $4.40. Large falafel (4 balls) $6.60. And if you've got Euros, this shop takes it!
VERDICT: Undeniably one of the best falafels in the DC area that definitely fills you up at a great price. Be prepared to bite into a medley of flavors, and get plenty of napkins! With some sauce sliding down your cheeks, you'll be smiling with satisfaction. You'll definitely go back for more to this vegetarian-friendly shop.
